Why do we Need to Detox?
Our bodies are designed to filter out unwanted substances through our liver, kidneys and skin, but with the amount of harmful chemicals increasing every year, our bodies are not coping as well as they should. We have become an ill nation.
When a body becomes too toxic we start presenting with symptoms like fatigue, headaches, depression, anxiety, allergies, food intolerances and various forms of cancers just to mention a few. By cutting out a few of the major toxins in our daily diet, it can feel like pushing the reset button in our bodies. Imagine waking up feeling full of energy and bounce! No lethargy, aches and pains that you have become so used to.

"If we are creating ourselves all the time, then it's never too late to begin creating the bodies we want instead of the ones we mistakenly assume we are stuck with."

Cutting out sugar - a major inflammatory in your daily diet
In Australia, the latest government recommendations do not specify a daily limit for sugar or added sugar intake, which is unfortunate considering sugar is an inflammatory substance that feeds bacteria. Disease thrives in a sugary environment, so when you start cutting out sugar from your daily diet you will find your immune system starting to work like it is supposed to, protecting you from minor infections and inflammatory conditions. Your general health and wellbeing will increase dramatically, leaving you with that spring in your step you thought long gone.
Sugar also feeds a type of yeast called Candida Albicans that naturally occurs in our bodies. Candida A lies dormant in a person with good health, but if the body is fed sugary foods over a longer period of time, the yeast will increase and become out of balance. As Candida A enters the bloodstream and starts thriving, it creates a condition called Candidiasis, which is very common.
Most doctors have trouble recognising Candidiasis and will most likely prescribe you with antibiotics or other prescription medication for the presenting conditions such as fungal infections of the skin, nails and mucous membranes, anxiety, depression, fatigue, food intolerances and bloating, sensitivity to mold, decreased libido, coated tongue, bad breath, just to mention a few. And guess what? Antibiotics will feed the yeast that will keep thriving and adding to your bad health. It has become a vicious circle.

How much sugar should I be eating?
According to the American Heart Association the average man should have no more than 36g of added sugars in his daily diet. The equivalent for women is 24g. The average American consumes 84g of added sugars daily, which adds up to 21 teaspoons of processed sugars! This is in addition to the naturally occuring sugars such as fructose found in fruit. Australians would not be far behind as the fifth fattest nation in the 2012 rankings.
Sugar does not only lead to obesity, heart disease and obesity, but plays a major part in mental health. 1 in 5 Australians aged 16-85 experience a mental illness any given year. Treating Candida Albicans should not be excluded from a treatment plan for depression if the patient has got a diet high in sugar, or any of the above symptoms.
